001: sadie’s home
i’m so grateful to sadie for welcoming me into her home and sharing a bit of its story. she approved image selects and captions
thank you to my sweet friend evie for lending me her camera to play with on this one.
welcome to (sadie and) pepper’s home. pepper’s mom often places her fabulous bed in front of the heater for her. here she is seen receiving warmth and praise.
sadie’s late dog enzo sits camera right, pepper (crafted by sadie) leaning into him from the left, together on a portal.
elk antlers rest over sadie’s reading chair. her 2026 has-reads stack up on the floor.
pepper shows off some of the books her mom has read so far this year.
books still waiting to be read wait on the other side, mixed in with some special ones whose pages have already met sadie’s eyes. all of her curtains are so romantic. paired with the natural light from these windows, the space feels calm and peaceful.
keys hang from a duck sent by sadie’s father. it arrived in one of his annual birthday boxes containing arbitrary personal items.
sadie & pepper play on the couch, sitting in their usual spot. behind them floats an original graphite piece from an artist friend of sadie’s, offering a portal for reflection. it feels simultaneously monolithic and unquestionably the exact right size. it’s difficult to express how moving it felt to share a room with this work.
a slice of sadie’s dining table. two out of three chairs are shown; i chose the two we sat in to have tea when i arrived.
sadie pours us tea.
sadie, radiant! in front of a painting by a friend.
a peek into the kitchen. i loved the color the yeti brought in. the light in here is beautiful in the afternoon.
the fridge contains multitudes: a photograph of enzo, a sweet note, coupons, movement class schedules, mementos from a game of telephone pictionary.
more brass ducks and another portal.
a peek into the bedroom, welcomed by a scrunchie on the door handle. they wanted a comically small piece of art above the bed, put a stamp there as a placeholder and it became the comically small piece of art.
a peek into the bathroom, welcomed by another door handle scrunchie. i see these as love notes from sadie to her future self (“no need to look far for a scrunchie, love!”)
a small snapshot above her bathroom mirror captures the glass octopus gifted by her step-mother. it sits next to unchanged poms whose tops exist out of frame. as you’ve now seen, this was just one of the many tiny sentimental things that sadie has thoughtfully integrated into her home.
